| it's very hard to feel Jewish pride when you're raised in the type of environment in which i was raised---namely, where most Jewish people were trying to "fit in" and most non-Jews were bible thumping Jesus freaks who told me I was going to burn in hell unless i accepted their lord and savior--- i had people trying to drag me to church...i had school teachers telling me my sister was not my sister b/c she had blue eyes and "no Jews could have that..." and most of the Jewish people around me were merely trying to fit in--- embracing suburban materialism w/ all its excess... there was so little true yiddishkeit where i was raised... and the Jews around me did not make me feel proud---- especially since i wasn't raised getting everything i wanted---- as they were--- i didn't fit in with the jesus freaks and i didn't fit in with the jews who got all that material crap... I believe in David Appletree's intellectual honesty and the sad part is WHY some Jews do NOT "get" what he means. I read (and sometimes write)him on Facebook and I find him extremely honest about his views. He doesn't MINCE words, he doesn't PLAY DIPLOMACY. After all, Israel as a state has to come together and some may deem those who try and "evangelize" the Jews "divisive" to the cultural independence of Israel. That is the same reason why Jews would rather marry Jews rather than gentiles. But think that this is THE people who have to preserve their RACE, CULTURE and TRADITION and the last thing they NEED NOW is to lose EVEYTHING that held them together as a people for 3000 years. That is not TOO HARD TO UNDERSTAND is it? Consider the population of the Jewish state (and its people all around the planet) and SEE WHY it would not be prudent on their part to be assimilating something alien to their culture, religion and history. It does not take a genius to figure it out. So he makes it clear that he isn't so fond of Messianic Jews. Okie. That may be considered "intolerant" BUT it is a matter of NATIONAL SURVIVAL in his view for the Jews at this point to be "intolerant". It is not any hatred he has in his heart for Messianics or Christians, or for that matter, even Muslims. His zeal is pure-- he merely wants his nation to SURVIVE. There is EVERYTHING GOOD in that intention. I am a Christian who does not believe in any church (I always say that) BUT I know how this Jewish activist feels and I have nothing but the HIGHEST RESPECT for him! After all, every major crime done upon the Jewish people was done in the name of Christianity..okie.. maybe NOT the "real" Christianity BUT the scars of history cannot be denied. And you know what I say : SUPPORT HIM if you are a Jew or a gentile who simply has some sense of justice and decency. Oh and I felt that way too (see his quotes) not a long time ago and sometimes, as some of you KNOW, I feel the same way sometimes even today.
